Bozeman Symphony Presents Season Finale: Mendelssohn and Copland’s Third Symphony
Bozeman, Mont. – Because of an unfortunate injury, guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas will not be performing with the Bozeman Symphony this weekend. In his place, violinist Simone Porter will return to Bozeman to help bring its 2024–25 season to a powerful close on June 6–8 at the Willson Auditorium.
Porter will perform Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, one of the most prominent and highly-regarded romantic violin concertos. Composed at the height of Mendelssohn’s brilliant career, the concerto became an instant classic and remains one of the cornerstones of the repertoire.
The violinist, who performed the Barber Violin concerto with Bozeman Symphony in June 2023, has been recognized as an emerging artist of impassioned energy, interpretive integrity, and vibrant communication. In the past few years, she has debuted with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and several renowned conductors. Raised in Seattle, Simone made her professional solo debut at age 10 with the Seattle Symphony and her international debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London at age 13. In March 2015, Simone was named a recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant.
The program concludes with Aaron Copland’s monumental Third Symphony—a quintessentially American masterpiece. From its atmospheric opening to the triumphant finale featuring Copland’s iconic Fanfare for the Common Man, the symphony delivers an unforgettable emotional and musical journey.
The three performances are on Friday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 8, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets start at $29 and are available at https://www.bozemansymphony.org/pablo-returns-coplands-third-symphony or by calling 406-585-9774. Discounted student (K-12 and college) tickets are offered, and tickets may also be available at the door.
The Bozeman Symphony extends its sincere gratitude to the generous sponsors who have made this concert possible: Cal & Tricia DeSouza, Gary Kunis & Connie Wong, Ritva Porter & Stephen Schachman, Skye Raiser & David Perlin, and Ken & Mary May.
