The program begins with the Bozeman debut of world-renowned cellist Colin Carr performing Robert Schumann’s deeply profound Concerto for Cello in A minor. From Lincoln Center to the Royal Festival Hall in London, from the Philadelphia Orchestra to the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Colin Carr is one of the world’s most sought-after classical music stars, and we’re honored to share the stage with him! This is one artist and concert you won’t want to miss!

The elegance and refinement of the chamber orchestra provide a sparkling clarity for this most intimate program of beautiful music. Grieg’s miniature masterpiece, the Holberg Suite, will begin the program with its exciting bursts of romantic virtuosity coupled with its delicate folk themes. Next up, and for all you lovers out there, Richard Wagner’s gorgeous Siegfried Idyll—a love song presented to his wife Cossima on Christmas Day, 1870. The program concludes as we welcome former concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony Andrés Cárdenes, as he teams up with former student, and our very own Carrie Krause, performing one of the most cherished works in all the symphonic repertoire; Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante.

The Holidays are a time for gathering family and friends in joyous celebration, and that’s precisely what we intend to do with this beautiful program of music for the season.

The concert begins playfully with Johann Strauss Jr.’s Fledermaus Overture. Then soprano Catherine Savery joins us performing Mozart’s joyous Exsultate jubilate. Next up, Bozeman cellist Andree Werner, winner of the 2010 Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras Young Artist Competition, will perform the thrilling final movement from Dvorak’s beloved cello concerto. Finally, Catherine will return to the stage, this time joined by the Bozeman Symphonic Choir, as we present Francis Poulenc’s festive Gloria.

You’re in for a real treat with this one! We’ll welcome Delta David Gier, Music Director of the South Dakota Symphony, for this fascinating, and uplifting program.

The concert begins with the sparkling orchestral wizardry of Berlioz’s Overture to Béatrice et Bénédict. Next, violinist Elissa Lee Koljonen will enchant you with two solo works representing two sides of a coin—First, Ernest Chausson’s lyrical rhapsody Poème, and second, the virtuosic fireworks of Ravel’s Tzigane. The program concludes in epic fashion as Maestro Gier and orchestra perform the soaring and majestic Symphony No. 5, by one of the greatest rhapsodists of all: Jean Sibelius.

The passion and drama of the Romantic Period are on full display
in this thrilling opening to our 44th concert season.

We begin with Glinka’s brilliantly orchestrated and exuberant Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla. Next, after his stunning Bozeman Symphony debut in 2009 and his equally successful appearance on our recital series last season, we’ll welcome back Spencer Myer, gold medalist from the 2008 New Orleans International Piano Competition, performing the virtuosic and universally adored second piano concerto of Camille Saint-Saëns. Finally we’ll present Tchaikovsky’s crowning achievement; the deeply profound Symphony No. 6, better known as the Pathétique.
