THE FAR AFIELD program, established in 1992, takes Bozeman Symphony chamber ensembles to rural communities to present free performances and share their musical perspectives. Far Afield enables the audience to see, hear and feel the music being created live instead of through the media of television or radio.
This newest member of the Far Afield roster is a group of nine women from the Bozeman Symphonic Choir with accompanist Stefan Stern. With the versatility of voice and numerous personnel combinations this group offers a wide variety of repertoire, from Baroque to ragtime.
Maestro Matthew Savery offers a variety of classes tailored to specific ages. Classes range from the basics of conducting, interpretation, form and function to AP level Orchestration and Sonata Form.
Flutes and Friends is a group of five professional flutists performing on many instruments of the flute family including the concert flute, piccolo and the alto flute and bass flutes. For certain pieces of the repertoire we are joined by musician friends, Jeff Vick and Alan Leech, who add a wide range of accompanying instruments: marimba, vibes, drums, saxophone, bassoon and, as they say, “assorted toys.”
The Gallatin Woodwind Quintet, founded in 1972, is the premier woodwind ensemble of Montana. The group has created a unified musical identity from five virtuoso wind soloists. The Quintet is noted for fine performances of the standard woodwind quintet repertoire.
